HORN OF PLENTY
Dream, Sweet Pea, dream.
The music is upon you.
Float inside the notes, float.
For the rush of sonorous sound
will create a down-like mattress
and secure vou within it —
within the music of love.
Wish, young boy, wish,
for her sleeping self to awaken
and be your special friend forever.
Let go of your tree of sorrows,
but before you release its trunk from your hands
brush her cheek with the tree’s very edges,
its tenderest leaf tips
and awaken her.
Take her hand,
and together follow the stanzas
until you reach the whole note of love —
the note of your being and hers entwined —
then sing.
Sing along with the horn:
the horn that brings light to darkness,
joy to sorrow,
music to silence
and love to loneliness.
Then dream, Sweet Peas, dream.
